Orwell

October 22, 2009

I first assumed I knew what Orwell was talking about in his essay, but, in the end, I did not.  Maybe I just understood the concept of his writing, but I just could not explain his purpose in words, until in class when Kate explained the point of his essay, which was avoid meaningless words that do not get to the point.  Basically, he wants us to stop beautifying words, creating false truths.  That was what he was trying to say all along, to not give people a false pretense of what we are trying to say but to say how it is.

If only Orwell could do the same with his writing and tell us the his point right at the beginning.  It made me sad, knowing I was completely wrong  :( .  Well, not completely.  I understood the concept, but I just could not put it out in words.  In a way, that is how I write.  Which is not good at all.  But, I always seem to start an essay knowing the concept of what I want to say, but not knowing what I want to say specifically.  It is quite aggravating, if I say so myself.  I need to really work on that and listen to Orwell.
